Crash! The Saving Rhinos - crashofrhinos.org - community!

Because rhinos need our help.

I learned of the Javan Rhino just a couple of years ago when I was researching how to help rhinos. I am hopeful that conservation efforts will be successful, just as they were with the Indian Rhino.

The Javan Rhino faces an extinction crisis. There are only around 60 individual rhinos living in Ujung Kulon National Park in Indonesia - and only 5 surviving in Cat Loc National Park in Vietnam. There are no Javan Rhinos in captivity. These 2 subspecies cannot interbreed.

The International Rhino Foundation helped the Indonesian government develop a strategy for ensuring the continued survival of Javan Rhinos. The top priorities for the future are to increase the population in Ujung Kulon to 70 animals (the park’s carrying capacity) and to then translocate several animals to begin establishing a second population in a secure area.
